    Chapter 102 - nArada praises kR^iShNa
nArada uvAcha
sAditA mauravAH pAshA nisundanarakau hatau |
kR^itaH kShemyaH punaH panthAH puraM prAgjyotiShaM prati ||2-101-1
nArada said:
(O yAdava-s) He (kR^iShNa) destroyed the ropes of (demon) mura and killed nisunda and naraka. He made the path towards the city of prAgjyotiSha comfortable, again.
shauriNA pR^ithivIpAlAstrAsitAH sparddhino raNe |
dhanuShashcha ninAdena pA~nchajanyasvanena cha ||2-102-2
The son of shUra (kR^iShNa) terrified the rulers of earth, who confronted him in battle, by the sound of his bow as well as by blowing the conch pA~nchajanya.
meghaprakhyai rathAnIkairdAkShiNAtyaiH surakShitam |
rukmiNaM yudhi nirjitya mahAbalaparAkramam |
By defeating the highly strong and valiant rukmi, protected by the southerners, having chariots as huge as clouds, in the battle,
rukmiNImAjahArAshu keshavo vR^iShNipu~NgavaH ||2-102-3
the best among vR^iShNi-s, keshava (kR^iShNa), took away rukmiNI.
tataH parjanyaghoSheNa rathenAdityavarchasA |
avApya mahiShIM bhojyAM sha~NkhachakragadAsibhR^it ||2-102-4
The one who holds conch, chakra and mace (kR^iShNa) gained the daughter of king bhoja as his wife with his chariot, dazzling like sun and roaring like a rain cloud.
jArUthyAmAhvR^itiH krAthaH shishupAlashcha nirjitaH |
vakrashcha saha sainyena shatadhanvAtha nirjitaH ||2-102-5
He defeated AhvR^iti in the city of jAruthi, krAtha as well as shishupAla. He defeated (danta)vaktra along with his army as well as shatadhanva.
indradyumno hataH kopAdyavanashcha kasherumAn |
hataH saubhapatiH shrImA~nChAlvashcha dR^iDhadhanvanA ||2-102-6
He killed indradyumna, yavana and kasherumAn with anger. The one who has the heavy bow (shAr~Nga) (kR^iShNa), killed king shAlva, the lord of saubha.
parvatANAM sahasraM cha chakreNa puruShottamaH |
vikIrya puNDarIkAkSho dyumatsenaM vyapothayat ||2-102-7
The best among men (kR^iShNa) destroyed thousands of mountains with his chakra. The one with eyes as beautiful as lotus (kR^iShNa) killed dyumatsena.
mahendrashikhare chaiva nimeShAntarachAriNau |
jaghAna puruShavyAghro rAvaNasyAbhitashcharau ||2-102-8
The one who is valiant as a tiger, one who can travel to the peaks of mahendra mountain also within the interval of closing the eye, killed the followers (demons) of ravaNa, who wander there.
irAvatyAM mahAbhojAvagnisUryasamau yudhi |
gopatistAlaketushcha nihatau shAr~NgadhanvanA ||2-102-9
The one who holds the shAr~Nga bow (kR^iShNa), killed the great bhoja, who fights like the fire and sun gods in battle, in irAvati. gopati and tAlaketu were also killed by kR^iShNa.
akShaprapAtane chaiva Dimbo hamsashcha dAnavau |
ubhau tAvapi kR^IShNena sAnugau vinipAtitau ||2-102-10
kR^iShNa killed the demons Dimba and hamsa within the winking of eye (or at a place called akShaprapAtana - see nIlakaNTha commentary). kR^iShNa killed both along with their followers.
dagdhA vArANasI chaiva keshavena mahAtmanA |
sarAShTraH sAnubandhashcha kAshInAmadhipo hataH ||2-102-11
The great soul keshava (kR^iShNa) burned varANasI. He killed the king of kAshI along with all his relatives, friends and people.
vijitya cha yamaM sa~Nkhye sharaiH sannataparvabhiH |
athaindrasenirAnItaH kR^iShNenAdbhutakarmaNA ||2-102-12
kR^iShNa who performs wonderful deeds defeated yama (the god of death) in the battle with arrows having soft heads and brought back the son of indrasena.
sahitaH sarvayAdobhiH samareShu mahAbalaH |
prApya lohitakUTaM cha kR^iShNena varuNo jitaH ||2-102-13
kR^iShNa defeated varuNa of great power along with all the aquatic beings in the battle on the peaks of lohita.
mahendrabhavane yAto devairgupto mahAtmabhiH |
achintayitvA devendraM pArijAtadrumo hR^itaH ||2-102-14
Going to the house of the great indra, kR^iShNa took away the pArijAta tree protected by the great deva-s with care, without a thought about the indra of deva-s.
pANDyaM pauNDraM kali~NgaM cha mAtsyaM chaiva janArdanaH |
jaghAna sahitAnsarvAnva~NgarAjaM tathaiva cha ||2-102-15
The one who excites men, killed pANDya, pauNDra, kali~Nga, mAtsya as also the king of va~Nga.
eSha chaikashataM hatvA raNe rAj~nAM mahAtmanAm |
gAndhArImAvahadvIro mahiShIM priyadarshanAm ||2-102-16
Killing one hundred and one kings in battle, the great soul, the valiant kR^iShNa, married his wife gAndhArI, who is beautiful to see.
tathA gANDIvadhanvAnaM krIDantaM madhusUdanaH |
jigAya bharatashreShThaM kuntyAH pramukhato vibhuH ||2-102-17
In the same manner, the slayer of madhu (kR^iShNa), the lord, made the best of bharata-s, one who plays in battles, holding bow gANDIva (arjuna) victorious, in front of kuntI.
droNaM drauNiM kR^ipaM karNaM bhIShmaM chaiva suyodhanam |
chakrAnuyAnaiH prahravaNe jigAya puruShottamaH ||2-102-18
This best among men, defeated (through arjuna), droNa, drauNi (son of droNa), kR^ipa, karNa, bhIShma and suyodhana in the battle of chariots.
babhroshcha priyamanvichCha~nCha~NkhachakragadAsibhR^it |
sauvIrarAjasya sutAM prasahya hR^itavAnprabhuH ||2-102-19
Desiring what is dear for bhabru (akrUra), the one who holds conch, chakra and mace, the lord (kR^iShNa) took away the daughter of the king of sauvIra, forcefully.
paryastAM pR^ithivIM kR^itsnAM sAshvAM sarathaku~njarAm |
vaiNudArikR^ite yatnAjjigAya puruShottamaH ||2-102-20
The best among men, kR^iShNa won the entire earth, along with horses, chariots and elephants with his efforts for vaiNudAri.
avApya tapaso vIryaM balamojashcha mAdhavaH |
pUrvadehe jahArAyaM balestribhuvanaM hariH ||2-102-21
This husband of mA (goddess), hari, having the splendor, strength and energy of penance won all the three worlds from bali in his earlier birth.
vajrAshanigadAkhaDgaistrAsayadbhishcha dAnavaiH |
yasya nAdhigato mR^ityuH puraM prAgjyotiShaM prati ||2-102-22
At the city of prAgjyotiSha, even though the demons terrified him with thunderbolts, lightning, maces and swords, he could not be killed.
abhibhUtashcha kR^iShNena sagaNaH sumahAbalaH |
baleH putro mahvIryo bANo draviNavattaraH ||2-102-23
kR^iShNa defeated the powerful son of bali , the great valiant, the most intelligent bANa along with his followers.
pIThaM tathA mahAbAhuH kaMsAmAtyaM janArdanaH |
paiThikaM chAsilomAnaM nijaghAna mahAbalaH ||2-102-24
The one who excites men (kR^iShNa), the one with strong arms, the one with high power, killed the minister of kaMsa, pITha, paiTHika as well as asiloma.
jR^imbhamairAvaNaM chApi virUpaM cha mahAyashAH |
jaghAna puruShavyAghro daityaM mAnuSharUpiNam ||2-102-25
The tiger among men (kR^iShNa), the one with great fame, killed the demons in the form of men, jR^imbha, airAvaNa as well as virUpa.
tathA nAgapatiM toye kAlIyaM cha mahaujasam |
nirjitya puNDarIkAkShaH preShayAmAsa sAgaram ||2-102-26
In the same way, the one whose eyes are as beautiful as lotus, defeated kAliya, the splendorous king of serpents in water, and sent him to the sea.
sa~njIvayAmAsa mR^itaM putraM sAndIpanestathA |
nirjitya puruShavyAghro yamaM vaivasvataM hariH ||2-102-27
The tiger among men, hari (kR^iShNa) defeated yama vaivasvata (god of death) and made the dead son of sAndIpani, live again.
evameSha mahAbAhuH shAstA teShAM durAtmanAm |
devAMshcha brAhmanAMshchaiva ye dviShanti sadA nR^ipa ||2-102-28
O king (ugrasena! nArada continued), in the same way, the one with strong arms, punishes the wicked souls who always hate deva-s and brAhmaNa-s.
nihatya narakaM bhaumamAhR^itya maNikuNDale |
devamAturdadau chaiva prItyarthaM vajrapANinaH ||2-102-29
Killing naraka, the son of Goddess earth, kR^iShNa, took away the ear rings with jewels and returned them to the mother of deva-s, as desired by the one who holds vajra in his hands (indra).
evaM cha devadaityAnAM surANAM cha mahAyashAH |
bhayAbhayakaraH kR^iShNaH sarvalokakaro vibhuH ||2-102-30
In the same way, lord kR^iShNa, the creator of the world, who pervades the world, having great fame, provides fear to the demons and protection to the deva-s.
saMsthApya dharmAnmartyeShu yaj~nairiShTvA.a.aptadakShiNaiH |
kR^itvA devArthamamitaM svasthAnaM pratipatsyate ||2-102-31
After establishing dharma among men, conducting sacrifices with tributes, doing many deeds for deva-s, he will return to his own place (vaikuNTha - see nIlkaNTha commentary).
kR^iShNo bhogavatIM ramyAmR^iShikAntAM mahAyashAH |
dvArakAmAtmasAtkR^itvA samudraM gamayiShyati ||2-102-32
kR^iShNa with great fame will bring the beautiful city of dvAraka, liked by sages with all prosperity, under his control and make it drown in the sea.
bahuratnasamAkIrNAM chaityayUpashatA~NkitAm |
dvArakAM varuNAvAsaM pravekShyati sakAnanAm ||2-102-33
dvAraka, the city full of many jewels and decorated by worship places chaitya and sacrificial posts, along with its forests will enter the residence of varuNa (sea).
tAM sUryasadanaprakhyAM mataj~naH shAr~NgadhanvanaH |
visR^iShTAM vAsudevena sAgaraH plAvayiShyati ||2-102-34
That city similar to the residence of the sun god, when abandoned by the son of vasudeva (kR^iShNa) will be drowned by the sea, who understands the mind of the one who wields the bow shAr~Nga (kR^ShNa).
surAsuramanuShyeShu nAsInna bhavitA kvachit |
ya imAmAvasetkashchidanyo vai madhusUdanAt ||2-102-35
There was and there will be none among the deva-s, demons and men except the slayer of madhu (kR^iShNa) to rule this city.
evameSha dashArhANAM vidhAya vidhimuttamam |
viShNurnArAyaNaH somaH sUryashcha bhavitA svayam ||2-102-36
In this way, kR^iShNa, who is viShNu, nArAyaNa, moon and sun, himself made the best system for dAshArha-s.
aprameyastvachintyashcha yathA kAmacharo vashI |
modatyeSha sadA bhUtairbAlaH krIDanakairiva ||2-102-37
He is unmeasurable and unthinkable. He can travel as he likes. He always enjoys with the beings, like a boy is happy playing with his toys.
na pramAtuM mahAbAhuH shakyo.ayaM madhusUdanaH |
paraM hyaparametasmAdvishvarUpAnna vidyate ||2-102-38
We are unable to estimate the power of the slayer of madhu, the one with powerful arms (kR^iShNa). There is nothing known among the beyond and after, which is devoid of the one with his universal form.
shruto.ayameva shatashastathA shatasahasrashaH |
anto hi karmaNAmasya dR^iShTapUrvo na kenachit ||2-102-39
He is famous in this way, hundred as well as hundred thousand times. No one has ever seen the end of his deeds.
evametAni karmANi shishumadhyagatastadA |
kR^itavAnpuNDarIkAkShaH sa~NkarShaNasahAyavAn ||2-102-40
The one with eyes as beautiful as lotus (kR^iShNa), has done many such deeds, during his childhood and youth, assisted by sa~NkarShaNa (balarAma).
ityuvAcha purA vyAsastapovIryeNa chakShuShA |
mahAyogI mahAbuddhiH sarvapratyakShadarshivAn ||2-102-41
vyAsa, the one with the eye powered by the splendor of penance, the one yoked in great yoga, the one with great intelligence, the one who sees everything directly, said so, long ago.
vaishampAyana uvAcha
iti saMstUya govindaM mahendravachanAnmuniH |
yadubhiH pUjitaH sarvairnAradastridivaM yayau ||2-102-42
vaishampAyana said:
(O janamejaya!) Praising govinda (kR^iShNa) thus as per the words of the great indra, the sage nArada, worshipped by all the yAdava-s, returned to heaven.
tatastadvasu govindo dideshAndhakavR^iShNiShu |
yathArhaM puNDarIkAkSho vidhivanmadhusUdanaH ||2-102-43
Afterwards, govinda (kR^iShNa), the one with eyes as beautiful as lotus, the slayer of madhu, gave all the wealth to the vR^iShNi-s and andhaka-s as per the manner as they deserve.
yAdavashcha dhanaM prApya vidhivadbhUridakShiNaiH |
yaj~nairiShTvA mahAtmAnau dvArakAmAvasatpurIm ||2-102-44
The yAdava-s, the great souls, acquiring the wealth, offered tributes as required, conducted sacrifices and lived in the city of dvAraka.
iti shrimahAbhArate khileShu harivaMshe viShNuparvaNi nAradavAkyaM nAma dvyadhikashatatamo.adhyAyaH
Thus this is the one hundred and second chapter of viShNuparva, harivaMsha, khila of mahAbhArata, nArada praises kR^iShNa.
