janamejaya said:
O lord! (O vaishampAyana) Among the many thousands of wives (of kR^iShNa), the famous are eight. Please tell me about the children of these eight (wives).

aShTau mahiShyaH putriNya iti prAdhAnyataH smR^itAH |
sarvA vIraprajAshchaiva tAsvapatyAni me shR^iNu ||2-103-2
vaishampAyana said:
It is mainly known that all the eight wives had children. All were valiant children. I shall tell you about these children, please hear.
rukmiNI satyabhAmA cha devI nAgnajitI tathA |
sudattA cha tathA shaibyA lakShmaNA chAruhAsinI ||2-103-3
rukmiNI, satyabhAmA as also devI nAgnajitI( satyA), sudattA, also known as shaibyA (the princess of shibi), lakShmaNA, who smiles beautifully,
mitravindA cha kAlindI jAmbavatyatha pauravI |
subhImA cha tathA mAdrI rukmiNItanayA~nChR^iNu ||2-103-4
mitravindA, also known as kAlindI, jAmbavati, also known as pauravI and subhImA, also known as mAdrI are the eight wives. Now hear about the children of rukmiNI.
pradyumnaH prathamaM jaj~ne shambarAntakaraH shubhaH |
dvitIyashchArudeShNashcha vR^iShNisiMho mahArathaH ||2-103-5
The auspicious pradymna, the one who slayed shambara, was born first. The second son of rukmiNI was chArudeShNa, the lion among vR^iShNi-s and a great chariot fighter.

suSheNashchArudeShNAshcha chAruvindashcha vIryavAn ||2-103-6

chArubhadra as also chArugarbhaH, sudeShNa and also druma, suSheNa, chArudeShNa as well as the valiant chAruvinda
chArubAhuH kanIyAMshcha kanyA chArumatI tathA |
The youngest was chArubAhu. A daughter, chArumatI was also born (to rukmiNi).
jaj~nire satyabhAmAyAM bhAnurbhImarathastathA ||2-103-7
rohito dIptimAMshchaiva tAmrajAkSho jalAntakaH
bhAnu and bhImaratha as also rohita, dIptimAn, tAmrajAkSha and jalAntaka were born to satyabhAmA.
bhAnurbhImalikA chaiva tAmraparNI jalandhamA ||2-103-8
chatasro jaj~nire teShAM svasAro garuDadhvajAt |
From the one who has garuDa as his flag (kR^iShNa), four sisters (to the sons) bhAnu, bhImanika, tAmraparNI and jalndhamA were also born (to satyabhAmA).
jAmbavatyAH suto jaj~ne sAmbaH samitishobhanaH ||2-103-9
mitravAnmitravindashcha mitravatyapi chA~NganA |
The son sAmba, who dazzled in battles, was born to jAmbavatI. The sons mitravAn, mitravinda and also a girl, mitravatI was born (to jAmbavtI).
mitrabAhuH sunIthashcha nAgnajityAH prajAH shR^iNu ||2-103-10
bhadrakAro bhadravindaH kanyA bhadravatI tathA |
Hear that mitrabAhu and sunItha are the children of nAgnajiti (satya, the daughter of (king) nagnajit) as also bhadrakAra and bhadravinda and also daughter bhadravatI.
sudattAyAM tu shaibyAyAM sa~NgrAmajidajAyata ||2-103-11
satyajitsenajichchaiva tathA shUraH sapatnajit |
sa~ngrAmajit was born to sudattA - shaibya, the princess of shibi and also satyajit, senajit and also the valiant sapatnajit.
subhImAyAH suto mAdryA vR^ikAshvo vR^ikanirvR^itiH ||1-103-12
kumAro vR^ikadIptishcha lakShmaNAyAH prajAH shR^iNu |
The sons vR^ikAshva and vR^ikanirvR^iti were born to subhImA - mAdri, as also the son vR^ikadIpti. Now hear about the children of lakShaNaA.
gAtravAngAtraguptashcha gAtravindashcha vIryavAn ||2-102-13
jaj~nire gAtravatyA cha bhaginyAnujayA saha |
gAtravAn, gAtragupta and the valiant gAtravinda were born along with a younger sister, gAtravatI (for them).
ashrutashcha suto jaj~ne kAlindyAH shrutasaMmitaH ||2-103-14
kAlindI had sons ashruta and shrutasaMmita.
ashrutaM shrutasenAyai pradadau madhusUdanaH |
taM pradAya hR^iShIkeshastAm bhAryAM mudito.abravIt ||2-103-15
The slayer of madhu (kR^iShNa) gave ashruta to shrutasenA. The lord of the senses (kR^iShNa), while giving the son, told his wife happily:
eSha vAmubhayorastu dAyAdaH shAshvatIH samAH |
bR^ihatyAM tu gadasyAhuH shaibyAyAma~NgadaM sutam ||2-103-16
He will be the son for both of you for ever. gada was born to kR^iShNa from bR^ihatI. A son a~Ngada was born brom shaibya.
utpannaM kumudaM chaiva shvetaM shvetA tathAMganA |
From her, kumuda and shveta were born as also the daughter shvetA.
agAvahaH sumitrashcha shuchishchitrarathastathA ||2-103-17
chitrasenaH sudevAyAshchitrA chitravatI tathA |
agAvaha, sumitra and also shuchi and chitraratha and also chitrasena were born from sudevA as well as the daughters chitrA and chitravatI.
vanastambashcha jaj~nAte sutaH stambavanashcha ha ||2-103-18
nivAsanA vanastambaH kanyA stambavatI tathA |
vana, stamba as also stambavana, nivAsana, vanastamba and the daughter stambavatI were born from kaushikI.
upasannashcha sha~Nkushcha vajrAMshuH kShipra eva cha ||2-103-19
kaushikyAm shrutasomAyAM yaudhiShThiryAM yudhiShThiraH |
kApAlI garuDashchaiva jaj~nAte chitrayodhinau ||2-103-20
upasana, sha~Nku and vajrAMshu and kShipra were born from shrutasomA. From yaudhiShThirI, the sons yudhiShThira as well as kApAli and garuDa who fought battles in wonderful ways were born.
evamAdIni putrANAM sahasrANi nibodha me | dashAyutaM samAkhyAtA vAsudevasya te sutAH ||2-103-21
Understand that thousands of sons were born, in hundred thousand numbers to the son of vasudeva this way.
ayutAni tathA chAShTau shUrA raNavishAradAH |
janArdanasya prasavaH kIrtito.ayaM tathA mayA ||2-103-22
There were also eighty thousand valiant sons of janArdana who were experts in battle who were described by me.
pradyumnasya suto jaj~ne vaidarbhyAM rAjasattama |
aniruddho raNe ruddho jaj~ne sa mR^igaketanaH ||2-103-23
O the best among kings! (janamejaya! vaishampAyana continued) From the princess of vidarbha (rukmavatI) pradyumna had a son, aniruddha, who can not be stopped in battle and who had deer on his flag.
revatyAM baladevasya jaj~nAte nishaTholmukau |
bhrAtarau devasa~NkAshAvubhau puruShasattamau ||2-103-24
baladeva (balarAma) had the sons nishaTha and ulmuka born from revatI. Both brothers were like deva-s, the best among men.
sutanushcha sutArA cha shaurerAstAM parigrahaH |
pauNDrakaH kapilashchaiva vasudevasya tau sutau ||2-103-25
The son of shUra (vasudeva ) had two other wives - sutanu and sutAra. pauNDraka and kapila are sons of vasudeva.
tArAyAM kapilo jaj~ne pauNDrashcha sutanoH sutaH |
tayornR^ipo.abhavatpauNDraH kapilashcha vanaM yayau ||2-103-26
kapila was born from (su)tAra and pauNDra(ka) is the son of sutanu. pauNDra became the king and kapila went to the forest.
turyAM samabhavadvIro vasudevAnmahAbalaH |
jarA nAma niShAdAnAM prabhuH sarvadhanuShmatAm ||2-103-27
From his wife of the fourth state (shUdra - see nIlakaNTha commentary), vasudeva had a highly powerful son named jara, the lord of niShAda-s, the best among the wielders of the bow.
kAshyAM supArshvaM tanayaM lebhe sAmbAttarasvinam |
sAnurjaj~ne.aniruddhasya vajraH sAnorajAyata ||2-103-28
From sAmba, kAshya got the son supArshva, who was very fast. sAnu was born to aniruddha and vajra was born to sAnu.
vajrAjjaj~ne pratirathaH suchArustasya chAtmajaH |
anamitrAchChinirjaj~ne kaniShThAdvR^iShNinandanAt ||2-103-29
prathiratha was born to vajra. suchAru was his son. shini was born to vR^iShNi's youngest son, anamitra.
shinestu satyavAgjaj~ne satyakashcha mahArathaH |
satyakasyAtmajaH shUro yuyudhAnastvajAyata ||2-103-30
To shini, the great charioteer, satyavAk, satyaka was born. The valiant yuyudhAna (sAtyaki) was born to sAtyaka.
asa~Ngo yuyudhAnasya maNistasyAbhavatsutaH |
maNeryugandharaH putra iti vaMshaH samApyate ||2-103-31
asa~Nga was born to yuyudhAna (sAtyaki). maNi is asa~Nga's son. yugandhara is maNi 's son. This concludes the description of the race.

Thus this is the hundred and third chapter of viShNuparva, harivamsha, khila of mahAbhArata, narration of the vR^iShNi race.
