arjuna said:
O the best among the bharata race (yudhiShThira)! Within a short time,
all of us reached the village of the brAhmaNa. After resting our carriers,
we made arrangements for staying.

O the son of kuru (yudhiShThira)! I stayed at the centre of the village,
surrounded on all sides by the great army of vR^iShNi-s.

Then, birds blazing fire and animals making cruel sounds frightened me by
making sounds in all the lighted directions.

The colour of the evening sky was like red rose. The sun lost the splendor.
Large meteors fell, making the earth tremble.

Seeing the terrible fall of meteors which made the hair on my body stand up
with fear, I ordered the army to be ready, as the crowd was watching
curiously.

The great chariot fighters of vR^iShNi and andhaka races lead by yuyudhAna
yoked their chariots and got ready. I also got ready in the same way.

When the midnight passed, the brAhmaNa , worried by fear, told me the
following words out of fear.

(brAhmaNa said:) O the ones who respects brAhmaNa-s! The time of delivery
has come. Be prepared so that you are not cheated.

(arjuna continued:) Within a short time, I heard a pitiable crying sound
from the house of the one who trembles (brAhmaNa): (the child is) taken away,
taken away.

the demon who took the child away.

O brother (yudhiShThira)! Immediately by showering arrows all around, we

As his boy was taken away, the brAhmaNa cried in sorrow. Then he made me hear
harsh and cruel words.

The vR^iShN-s lost their will. I stood there losing my mind and splendor. The
brAhmaNa spoke directly to me, addressing me in particular.

desire.

You are contesting always in vain with kR^iShNa of exceeding intellect.

occurred.

(arjuna continued:) Without saying anything to the one who trembles (brAhmaNa),
I retired from there. Along with the sons of vR^iShNi-s and andhaka-s, I came
to the place where kR^iShNa of great splendor was.

arjuna who speaks useless words is useless. The bow of the one who boasts is
also useless. The one with bad intellect, due to stupidity, takes up what is
discarded by the

Then, taking all my weapons, I went to rasAtalaM and heaven.
There also, I could not get the brAhmin's son. I was unable to keep my words.

The men shall establish your vast fame for ever." Speaking affectionately
thus, mAdhava (kR^iShNa) consoled me.

After consoling the brAhmaNa, kR^iShNa spoke as follows

Asking the brAhmaNa to mount the chariot and making dAruka to dismount,

O the best among kaurava-s! (O yudhiShThira! arjuna continued): Then,

the direction of somA-s udIchI, towards north.
